HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR DEAR FRIENDS!  The best to you and your families!

Happy November!

This year has quickly passed.  I hope you are starting to think about the holidays.  I have been decorating the house and making snowmen and snow ladies.  I love this time of year!  Growing up we didn't have extras or holiday decorations.  My dad worked in the coal mine and we were poor.  We always had a Christmas tree and mostly that was put up Christmas Eve then taken down by New Year's Day.  We would make paper garland and if my grandfather gave us a dollar we would buy a decoration to keep year after year.  I made angels and decorations from scraps of paper and cloth too.  Things that we cherished were taken out of old worn out boxes that were kept in the attic with great excitement and carefully placed.  My mother would manage to save a few dollars during the year and buy us a Christmas gift.  Everything was bought with cash back then and if you didn't have the cash you couldn't afford it.  My uncle and grandfather would go together and buy a gift for us.  One year I got a red wagon.  Wow!   I was so lucky!   I love my decorations now and my house is filled with Christmas.  Most of the things I have made and I still carefully take each one out of their box and feel the excitement of the holidays placing them in just the right place.  It is wonderful and I love the feeling of Christmas.  My nativity scenes are most precious and it is wonderful to be able to set them up every November.  They are very old.  I hope the joys of the holidays fill your heart and soul and you always remember Jesus is the reason we celebrate.  Happy Holidays!

Winter is around the corner.

This year is flying by and it will be the holidays before we know it.  I have been busy making some prims and I enjoy making them this time of year.  I put a Snow Queen on eBay today and have two more I am working on.  I should be making more bears but this has taken my attention at the moment.  Most of my flowers are cleaned up but I still have three large pots of flowers, morning glories, zinnias and marigolds to cut back.  The snow will be drifting down soon.  I made a very primitive bench last week and have made plans to make a new fabric cupboard.  I cannot wait to start on it.  Watching Nolan every week has been a pleasure.  He is the sweetest baby and keeps me hopping.  I cannot wait to start decorating for Thanksgiving and Christmas.  The holidays are the best time of the year!  Have a great week and enjoy every minute!  ~Carol

Autumn is in the air.

Summer has flown by and soon it will be Autumn.  I love pumpkins, Halloween and everything that goes with fall.  I will be decorating soon.  Summer was very wet here and chilly at night.  Not very good for the garden.  I have been working on my long list of things I had to accomplish before the snow flies and they are all crossed off.  We have a few little things to do yet but it was a struggle with the constant rain to accomplish anything outside. This was our second summer here and we planned to get mostly everything done.  Next summer we have a few things we plan to do but nothing major.  I have been working on bears and other critters when I have time.  Last weekend I took Harriet, Roseanna, Gerald and Elaine to The Boston Road Collection.  Roseanna has already been adopted and I am hoping the other three will have a home soon.  I don't always have a lot of time.  Fred and I moved my Mother to an apartment near here so it is easier to spend time with her.  Watching my grandson is a great joy in my life.  He is always smiling and so happy.  He has allergies and the poor boy doesn't let that get him down.  I am amazed at his laughter.  He thinks the simple things are funny and he makes me laugh out loud with him.    I hope everyone has had a wonderful summer!  Have an amazing Labor Day holiday weekend and enjoy family and friends.  ~Carol

August Is Around The Corner!

I am hoping everyone is enjoying every minute of summer.  It is quickly slipping by and it will be fall and pumpkin time soon!  This has been another busy summer and I am happy to say I have completed most of my long list of the things I planned to accomplish.  I am now working on the front yard and redesigning the landscape.  It will be much easier I hope to take care of with less weeds.  I used an organic mix of vinegar, borax and blue Dawn this week and it did help to eliminate the weeds.  I painted the front porch Monday and made a smaller bench for the corner of the porch moving the larger one to the front of the house.  Happy to cross that off my list.  Our garden had been giving us a great deal of cucumbers and we have canned dill pickles. It is always nice that Fred and I always work together.  I have a great husband!  I finished Herriet last weekend.  She is 24 inches tall and made of long mohair.  Working on a giraffe and elephant and hope to have them finished soon.  Enjoy your day and give God the glory for another day to be happy.  ~Carol

Enjoy an amazing summer!

Summer has been a wet one so far here.  Spring and winter were also wet.  Great for the garden and flowers but we have to work around the storms that come daily.  I remember my grandfather John Jacob Hanselman use to tell me when I was young that if we had a lot of snow summer would be fairly dry.  If we had a lot of water in the summer the winter would be dry.  I found that to be true and always remembered he told me that.  Now we never know what is going on.  I do think MAN has created a mess with the environment causing the weather to drastically change.  I also believe God has been left out of our lives.  God always blesses us if we allow him.  I have been working on bears this week.   Thank you and enjoy every minute of every day!!  ~Carol

Happy Fourth of July

Summer is flying by and we are ready to celebrate the 4th of July.  I hope everyone is ready for picnics and parades with beautiful fireworks to end the day's celebration.  I am hoping for a day of celebration minus rain as I am very anxious to watch some fireworks.  We have not ventured out to watch the fireworks display in the last several years.  There is never enough time in a day and the days do fly by.  We have been busy as always working on the house, yard and garden.  Settling my Mother into her new apartment has been an enormous job.  Gladly we only have a few details to finish up.  I have made 4 bears in the last few weeks and busy cutting out a giraffe today.  They are so much fun to make!  I love to paint their spots!  I finally finished my new flower garden fence, scare crow, bench made from some of my Dad's old wood he left for me, and two bird houses.  That was one of my projects this summer.  I still have a few left and I hope the rain will let me paint the deck, front porch and redesign the front yard landscaping. All 3 will be HOT jobs.  I hope you enjoy your summer and celebrations.  Always remember to thank God for your blessings.  HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!   Bear hugs to you. ~Carol

Entertainment

What do you do for entertainment?  There are a lot of choices for entertainment this time of year.  I enjoy a lot of things in my life but I enjoy dancing, a lot!  I have to say it is one of my favorite things to do.  Mr. P. and I love to dance!  We have some great friends who go with us and it is always fun to enjoy a band and dance to the music.  The other thing I love to do is watch animals and take pictures of them.  We have a lot of deer where we live and there are usually six or so running by the lake.  They love the apples from our trees and it will be fun to watch them and take some pictures as soon as the apples are ripe.  I knock apples off the tree every day so they have plenty to eat.  They are amazing animals.  Working on some bears and trying to whip the flowers and yard in shape has not been an easy job this spring with everything else I have had to keep me busy.  I am getting there.  I will be taking Suzanna Jo to The Boston Road Collection this weekend.  Take time to enjoy life and the beauty of summer.  ~ Carol

June

Another month gone!  May seemed to slip by quickly and was a super busy month.  Every day is an adventure.  Most adventures are great!  I just hope summer is a happy adventure and I can catch up on some things I have neglected.  Tobias, Andrea and Chase were here for Memorial Day and that was too much fun!  Back to dull and boring after they leave.  My long list of things to do is slowly being checked off.  I finished the little 6 1/2 inch bear Cassandra last week and she is on eBay.  Working on two other bears and I need to cut out a large bear this week.  Finally getting my Mother settled in her apartment.  That has been quite an undertaking.  Saturday morning Fred and I motivated early and took out the old commode and put in her NEW throne.  The apt. manager said she would pay for it if we wanted to install it.  A NEW throne for the Queen!  I have to admit we have installed approximately 11 in not so many years.  That has to be the worse job in the world...well maybe not the worse but it comes close.  We have a system and it goes fast except for rusty bolts that have not been loosened in 50 years.  I am a germ maniac and I have to be adequately covered and if my rubber glove touches some nasty I freak out!  Oh YUCKY!!!!  I always scrub down everything with Clorox and I have to have a vat of Clorox for that job!  Poor Fred.  As my Mother says, "I can't help it!"  Hung a couple clocks and pictures for her and I made a wreath and floral for her dining room table this past week.  They delivered a new refrigerator for her Tuesday and I hope they fix her dryer this week.  She will be set!  The weather is perfect and I enjoyed working in my flowers over the weekend.  I hope you have a wonderful week and enjoy beautiful summer weather!  ~

Spring is the most beautiful time of the year!

It certainly has been a wet spring!  I hope everyone is enjoying the most beautiful time of the year.  I have been very busy packing my Mother up after 57 years living in the same house.  Moved her last weekend to her apartment near us and was very busy all week unpacking her, cleaning and getting her settled into her new place.  I hope she will be very happy.  Up until today she has been staying with us as there seemed to be a big problem with AT&T getting her land line hooked up.  That is a long boring and maddening story!  Seems you have to jump through hoops no matter what you try to cancel or hook up now days.  Every day I come home exhausted with my work to catch up on.  Tonight is her first night there alone.  When we left her I felt like I was leaving my child at college.  It has been a very emotional couple of weeks.  Leaving the house I grew up in for the last time with the last load of her belongings was not a happy time.  My Dad passed away in that house a few years ago and I felt somehow I was leaving him behind.  Onward and forward as I always say to better things.  Letting her make the decision to move was the best thing to do. Last winter was a very long winter and she decided she did not need to be out in the middle of nowhere alone.  That was good news!  I worked on some bears for the wonderful antique shop and they picked up the order almost two weeks ago already.  Time sure flies and I have been sewing every chance I get but have not completed the two bears I am working on.  Please enjoy a wonderful weekend and be thankful for your blessings.  ~Carol

April and it is looking like SPRING!

Wow!  Finally the flowers are coming up and it is looking like spring.  The sunshine sure warms our hearts.  Beautiful!  Busy as usual here and getting more busy as time goes by.  I love my little Nolan and he is the sweetest little bundle of pure joy and smiles.  He is always smiling and loves to be kissed and cuddled by Granny.  Watching him is a great pleasure.  I have been busy with orders and keeping up with my grandson, mother and other things.  NO time to dilly dally!  I will be making some treasures for Chagrin Valley Antiques in the near future and I hope the mohair arrives soon.  I finished Elouise, Axel and Annabella and they are waiting on their forever home at the antique shop now.  I still have other obligations I have made making and selling my creations.  It sure keeps me hopping and that is good.  I do admit with the sun popping up now I am feeling the need to get outside and work on a few projects for summer.  I plan to make a  new patio on the side of the house, a gazebo roof over the basement doorway, a raised garden, two more fences and a flower garden near the new patio complete with a scarecrow like the one I made at the other house.  Painting the deck will not be as much fun but fun when it is finished.  I still think Miss Kitty should learn to sew.  She could whip up a few CATastrophes if nothing else.  I always ask her every morning if she wants to go outside and she will say, "Yeah" but she says that to everything.  I think she is just waiting until she can go outside and lounge around.  She will go out for a little while but pops right back inside to her comfortable fur blanket inside her fur bed on top of her love seat.  She is Queen Cataberious! Her royal name but she also has a few others.  Have a wonderful month of April and enjoy every minute God gives us!

March Lion

I hope everyone is thinking about Spring flowers, gardens and warm weather!  Sure has been a cold winter and it is still snowing here in Ohio.  I have been working on a baby bunny, Boston Terrier and another one of my new designs a long legs bunny.  I hope to start on a couple larger bears for an order when these are finished.  I am watching my grandson and he is growing like a little weed.  So cute and smiles all the time.  He is a happy baby.  What a miracle!  Stay warm and think Spring!

Looking Forward To Spring!

Can Spring be far away??  I hope not.  I am ready for it!  Chirping birds every morning and sleeping flowers waking up and peeking through the soggy soil.  I cannot wait to get started on my projects this summer.  Another long list but what would I do without a long list of things to accomplish?  Last summer was our first here and we worked to make this house into our home.  This summer I have a lot of projects still to accomplish.  I have gotten back to creating my creatures over the winter months and my latest new mohair bunny creations make me smile.  I am finishing Lilly Jo's overalls today and hope to have her listed on EBay tonight.  Her sisters Laura Jo and Lexy Jo were a lot of fun to make. Spring orders are picking up and I love orders!  My little grandson is so much fun and a joy to watch.  He brings such amazing joy!  He smiles all the time and before long he will be getting into grandma's primitives but that is ok.  We will enjoy them together.  I hope you are looking forward to Spring and everything new and wonderful.  Spring is my favorite time of year! God blesses us with an abundance of miracles and Spring is a miracle to me!  Enjoy every minute!

Freezing February!

Brrrrrr!  It has been another cold month so far and I am hoping March will be warmer.  We definitely need to thaw out.  There is a lot of snow on the ground and it snowed all day yesterday and we have a winter storm warning today.  I love the snow...I love the snow...I love the snow!  I keep telling myself that!  The temperature has gone down this morning and with minus 2 degrees it can be difficult to stay warm!  I have been busy sewing and also watching my grandson.  Nolan is always smiling and he is a joy to watch.  Trying to sit up already and he isn't 4 months old yet.  This granny has had to get use to a young one again.  Chase is 9 and that is a long time in between grandchildren.  I managed to finish Max, Gretchen and Miles and Max was sent off to South Carolina.  Gretchen will be on her way this week to Michigan and I have another bunny finished and ready to go to Hartville and working on another bunny today.  Hope for everyone to have SPRING weather and feel the sun on your face!  Stay warm and have a nice week!  ~Carol

Another frigid morning!

We continue to have below zero temperatures here.  I am thinking how good spring will feel and seeing the flowers this summer will be a real treat!  I finished Lexi the mohair bunny yesterday.   Lexi will be traveling to The Boston Road Collection soon.  I hope you have a warm day today and enjoy some sunshine.  It is very anemic but beautiful!  Happy Wednesday!

Old Man Winter is still hitting us hard!!!!

More snow and low temperatures in store for us.  This weekend mostly was a white out.  Saturday the snow kept coming all day and there were times I could not see the road in front of our house.  The usual six deer ran down by the lake as it was nearing darkness and they were not wasting any time.  I do hope they can find some food in the fields.  I would love to get a truck load of corn and make sure they have a full tummy every day.  Poor things.  They come and eat the berries on the tree by the house every night and that is fine with me.  I have been working on 5 animals and slowly are finishing them one at a time.  I hope you had a wonderful weekend and stayed warm and cozy.  Have a nice week!
I finished Amelia and she is on EBay:  http://www.ebay.com/itm/301080893995?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649

OLD MAN WINTER

Old Man Winter has hit us this month in old Ohio!  It has been FRIGID!  -9 with wind chills of -20 to -30 degrees!  Seems like the old guy doesn't want to let his hold on us slip too much!   The same is coming back and it will hit us with more below zero temperatures.  I usually don't say too much about winter since there really isn't much you can do but complain and pray.  This month of January has been very difficult.  Time to think SPRING!  I am feeling like everything is dreary and most days are without the SUN!  I do still have two Christmas trees up and light them every day.  They always make me smile every morning.  While taking down the other decorations I replaced them with Valentines and Easter.  So now we have Christmas/Valentine/Easter decorations.  Who cares what others think is my new motto.  I love the lights and when Christmas is over it always seems like the plug has been pulled and we are in for the long dullness of the gray winter.  Maybe in a few weeks the trees will be retired until next Christmas!  Time flies!  I do love the holidays and it is a bit depressing after they are all over.  I always work for Christmas 12 months out of the year!  I miss Christmas!   I have been working on two bears and a pup and am cutting out a giraffe for an order and a bunny.  I really need to finish up something!  With a lot of other things to take my time and mind away I have to get the fur to cooperate this week.  I hope you have a wonderful week and enjoy every minute of life!  Think Spring!  (Sorry I cannot upload pictures again to my blog)

Brrrr! This first week of January has been crazy weather!

Like we say in Ohio, "If you don't like the weather now stick around it will change in a minute!"  It has been a crazy ride this winter!  We have had a lot of snow and then pounding rain in the middle of the night.  A week or so ago I woke up thinking we would surely float away with snow on the ground and rain pounding the house.  I am about to start on an ark!  Last night after warmer temperatures and rain that melted the snow, we are taking a dive and have snow again this morning.  I hope everyone is careful on the roads!  With the rain and melting snow I am sure there is black ice covered with snow this morning.  Tomorrow the high is suppose to be -1.  That is the HIGH from the weather report yesterday and the low -13 with wind chill at minus 20 or lower.  Winter is making a statement!   I remember COLD winters and a lot of snow when I was young but we never had rain or freezing rain.  My mind always turns to the poor animals outside trying to survive.  Wish I could bring them all in the house!  Sad they have to suffer in the weather!  I finished Desarae the Mohair Panda and listed her on EBay last night.  She was fun to make with her Valentine Heart.  Have a great week and stay warm and safe!  Bear Hugs!    http://www.ebay.com/itm/301061012187?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649
